From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Dame Judith Olivia Dench CH, DBE, FRSA (born 9 December 1934) is an English movie, stage and television actress. Judi Dench has appeared in James Bond movies since 1995 as the character M. She has also appeared in other large budget movies such as Mrs. Henderson Presents and Ladies in Lavender.

An English actress and author, Judi Dench is well known for portraying Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love and played M in several James Bond films. She was born to parents Reginald, a doctor, and Eleanora. Judi Dench attended the Mount School and at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Judi Dench, who played M from 1995 to 2012 After the long period between Licence to Kill and GoldenEye , the producers brought in Dame Judi Dench to take over as the new M replacing Robert Brown. The character is based on Stella Rimington , the real-life head of MI5 between 1992 and 1996.
