Help identifying unique flintlock pistol! Hey guys, I recently stumbled upon an intriguing flintlock pistol that looks like it might be from the late 1600s-early 1700s. I believe the pistol is a 65 cal., has a part round part octagon smoothbore barrel measuring 12 3/8”. The lock is marked “K&C”. I have seen a similar example online...

Flintlock shooting is for the shooter who is interested in making each shot count, and will take the time to get the routine down. For me it was going back to the roots of the sport. I joined a local black powder club to shoot weekly, familiarity building success. I can easily say my flintlock is as reliable as many of the shooters percussion ...

  4. 50 vs 54 FlintLock Rifle - The Muzzleloading Forum

    https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/50-vs-54-flintlock-rifle.153531/

Oct 25, 2022. #9. I've got both, both are 38" barrels. The difference is that the .54 is a straight barrel (15/16" across the flats) and the .50 is a B-profile swamped barrel. The .50 carries and balances SO much better, due to the swamped barrel. But the .54 is a little more stable off-hand.

1,415. Sep 22, 2017. #11. With a fast flint lock the ball is going to take nearly .100 seconds to exit the bore. With a fast cap gun, about 1/3 that time. If your hits on paper are consistently at 4:00 that's indicative of a flinch. What you should do is start calling your shots.

For what I paid it will look fine over the fireplace if it turns out to be a lemon, but I would really like to shoot it with my grandkids. I am brand new to flintlocks.

  8. Flintlock swabbing process? How to clean between shots?

    https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/flintlock-swabbing-process-how-to-clean-between-shots.123263/

It must be one smooth movement down the barrel. It should take about 2 seconds to push the patch completely to the bottom of the bore until it stops. Let the wet patch sit there for at least a count of 5 to 10 seconds and then slowly pull the ramrod and patch back completely out of the bore.

I prefer flintlocks, but a good caplock rifle or pistol is worth owning as well. And I do have a soft spot for cap and ball revolvers, even if they see less use than my flint rifles and smoothbores. If you're serious about muzzleloading, it's worth owning at least one of each. and. 1.
