Phoenix Suns, American professional basketball team based in Phoenix. Established in 1968, the Suns play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and have won two Western Conference titles.

Phoenix Suns Charities was founded in 1988 with the mission to benefit organizations that assist the needs of children and families in Arizona.

Phoenix was an unlikely choice because of its remote location and the city was small, but still growing. What helped the cities cause was that the rival ABA began to expand in the west as well and placed teams in other western cities such as Denver, St Louis and Salt Lake City.

The Phoenix Suns Club was founded in 1968 in Phoenix, Arizona. In the same year, as a result of its expansion, it became a part of the National Basketball Association. In order to come up with a name for the club, the daily newspaper “The Arizona Republic,” published in Phoenix, organized a competition for the team’s name – “Think of the name of the team.”

Upon their move to Phoenix, the Cardinals played their home games at Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in nearby Tempe.

On February 28, 1988, Johnson, Mark West, Tyrone Corbin, and a future draft pick were traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for forward Larry Nance, Mike Sanders, and a future draft pick.
